FAQ
What is the difference between Malibu C DDL Direct Dye Lifter and CPR?
CPR is formulated to
remove oxidative hair colour
and will not affect natural pigment. DDL is formulated to rem
ove direct dyes and, when mixed with developer, affect the natural pigment of the hair.
CPR is designed to reduce the amount of pigment while DDL will lift/remove all the pigment and non-oxidative direct dye from the hair.
Will DDL affect natural pigment?
Yes, DDL will remove natural pigment.
Do I have to mix DDL Direct Dye Lifter with developer?
For a gentler alternative, DDL may be mixed with water.
If I mix DDL Direct Dye Lifter with water rather will it still lift natural pigment?
Yes.
Should DDL Direct Dye Lifter be processed under heat?
We do not recommend processing DDL under heat, as this will increase the oxidative action. Check the hair every five minutes to ensure that the integrity of the hair is not compromised.
Can you use DDL Direct Dye Lifter for Highlights/Foils?
Yes, DDL may be used for creative colour as well as colour removal.
Will DDL Direct Dye Lifter remove ALL brands of Direct Dyes/Fashion Colours?
We cannot guarantee removal of all brands of direct dyes/fashion colours as it depends on the type of dye/colour and how often the direct dye has been applied, plus the integrity of the hair.
Can you use a developer higher than a 20 volume with DDL Direct Dye Lifter?
It is not recommended, however if a higher volume is used proceed cautiously and watch it carefully. We recommend only 10 or 20 volume.
How is DDL different than bleach?
The oxidative process is the same as the bleaching process if DDL is mixed with developer. However, DDL has other compounds to make it a multi-dimensional and safer approach to lifting pigment. If DDL is mixed with water, it is much gentler than using bleach.
Should I wear gloves?
Yes, DDL Direct Dye Lifter is an oxidizing agent. We recommend you protect your hands by wearing gloves.
Can DDL be used in place of a regular lightener?
Yes, DDL is gentler than traditional bleaches.
Can you cause damage with DDL Direct Dye Lifter?
Any product that is oxidative has the potential to cause damage, especially if not used correctly. We recommend doing a strand test to assess the integrity of the hair.
After I have used DDL for colour removal, do I need to formulate the next colour differently?
There is no need to reformulate your colour differently following DDL. Formulate to the manufacturer’s instructions.
How do I know when to use DDL Direct Dye Lifter, and when to use CPR Colour Pigment Remover?
If your colour was mixed with a developer, then CPR Colour Pigment Remover is your tool. If it was a straight colour that wasn’t mixed and had to be used on pre-lightened hair, then DDL Direct Dye Lifter is the tool you would use.
Does DDL Direct Dye Lifter work on all types of hair colour?
DDL Direct Dye Lifter works best on direct dyes. This would be hair colour that was not mixed with developer. If you are in doubt of what it on the hair, we recommend using CPR Colour Pigment Remover as your first step to colour correction. If CPR Colour Pigment Remover did not remove all of the colour, you can use DDL Direct Dye Lifter next. Every hair colour has different chemistry, so it may be necessary to try different approaches in order to achieve the desired results.
How to use:
1. In a non-metallic mixing bowl, mix DDL with about 90ml of water or up to 20 volume developer and mix thoroughly. Mixing with water will provide a gentle lift and mixing with developer will achieve more lift (higher volume = higher lift)
3. Hair must be clean before treatment. Shampoo your hair well, preferably with a clarifying shampoo such as the Malibu C Un-Doo-Goo Shampoo to remove any styling product.
4. Section your hair and apply the DDL solution with a colour brush whilst wearing gloves and avoiding the scalp. The formula will not lather.
5. Apply to areas where colour needs to be lifted or where direct dyes and stains need to be removed, be it the entire head or certain sections.
6. Process formula for 5-45 minutes depending on desired lift amount or the intensity of direct dye or stain. Heat is NOT required. Check hair every 5 minutes for desired lift & porosity.
7. Rinse hair when desired lift achieved or when dye or stain removed completely.
8. To stop oxidation, apply Malibu C Crystal Get throughout hair for 1 minute to seal cuticle. Afterwards, shampoo hair again.

The Problem Starts With Your Water
Minerals found in water are continuously exposed to the hair during bathing. Hot or warm water will open the cuticle, allowing minerals to get inside.
What’s hiding in your shower water is the culprit of many common and severe issues for the hair, scalp and skin. Over 85% of the population is shampooing in hard water, which has an abundance of calcium and magnesium, and nearly 100% of households have water with harsh chemicals and other minerals, even homes with water softeners.
Color fading, poor gray coverage, brassy blondes, muddy or ashy hues, lack of movement and bounce, dryness, and dullness may all be results of mineral buildup.

What They Do
Malibu C offers a customized regimen for every hair type because everyone showering in water needs to use Malibu C. What most people don’t realize is what is hiding in your shower water is often the culprit of many common and severe issues for the hair, scalp and skin. Over 85% of the population uses shampoo with hard water, which is packed with minerals and harsh chemicals that wreak major havoc on the hair, scalp and skin and can even serve as a trigger for many conditions.
Hard water mineral build-up on the hair can be a trigger for issues such as hair color fading, poor grey coverage, brassy blondes, muddy or ashy hues, hair that lacks movement or body/bounce, lackluster locks, highlights that seem to “disappear” just a couple weeks after leaving the salon, just to name a few. Luckily the Malibu C Wellness Hair Care Remedies have the ability to rectify all of the issues, and more!
